Believe nothing

Here is a thought. I do not believe in the word believe. How is that for a paradox?
But it is true. How much difference does it make to this world what you believe in? Lets start big. How many of my readers are atheists? I ask you this. If there is a God, do you think He is going to run this world any different if you believe or not? Better yet, do you think that he will exist only if you believe?
Let me rephrase that. How does it affect this universe what you believe in? How? What difference are you making through your beliefs? Even if you are able to change the way people think or act, the sun still rises in the east. It will continue to set in the west. It continues to rain and snow. There continues to be sadness and happiness in this world.
I know I may sound very vague to you, but the point I am trying to make is this:
HOW DOES IT MATTER? Let me define matter for you. Some thing that has mass and occupies space. Do your beliefs matter to you? Most of you might say yes. Now i ask you this. Should they?
Here is a real life example. There is a beggar who lives near my house. Everyday he begs to scrape through a few meals in a day. Everyday I feel sorry for him. I pity him. Sometimes I even help him. That is just me being human. Now lets see our beliefs. The average person may believe one of two things. Encouraging beggars is wrong or encouraging beggars is right. Decent debate topic but that's not why I am here. Now tell me this. What difference does your belief have on that beggar? Immediately you might say based on your beliefs you might help him or not. So back to my point, should you?
Another example. You have an examination. You study and pass it with decent marks. Now how does your belief on whether exams are a good form of learning or not going to matter? Either way your life and career are on the line. Again you will say based on your beliefs you might give importance to the exams. Again I ask, should you?
Enough of riddles. Lets get to the point. Should we believe in something? Should we believe in someone? In the end it boils down to you. Does it help you? Does kneeling and praying to the Almighty soothe your troubles? Then do it! Does getting good grades make you happy? Then do it! Honestly speaking beliefs are not what define you. Principles are what define you. And trust me when I say this, have atleast this one principle, ALWAYS DO WHAT WILL HONESTLY MAKE YOU HAPPY. I stress on honestly.

I guess it all boils down to what you said in the last line.. To do and believe in things that make you happy.
Food for thought.. Keep writing! :)

i'll say there are different biliefs.........

people believe in god.....coz believing in god helps them to feel secure..... that there is someone looking over you and helping you.....

another type is...believing in oneself........
if people didnt believe in themselves..... we wouldn't have all this technology.....
we wouldn't even have this platform to discuss this topic....

belief is very important.......
there is nothing like not believing........
if u dont believe anything and u argue it.... even then u still believe ur own words.......

i hope i'm making some sense......
anyways.......good topic!!!

hey... you've actually contradicted yourself when u say that principles matter... cuz what're principles if not firm beliefs ?

and belief does matter if the believer is the sort who gets things done according to his beliefs. gandhi... believed in ahimsa, look where that got us. or hitler for that matter.so even the whole beggar situation could be changed... if i believed they were a menace and actually went on to become p.m and bring abt reforms to er,eradicate them ? as of now impractical, but u never know...

and if u dint believe in belief, i dont think u'd ve even written all that u wrote... ruminate on that,buddy...

Life is nothing without beliefs.Belief in God is important for upbringing, since it helps u differentiate good from bad. belief in god is just to have this fear from doing the wrong.

But the most important belief is to believe in yourself- since you believe in self, you are writing this and since i believe in my thoughts, i am replying to your blog.
Good luck.
Have belief and i believe that you will have a successful blog.

well beliefs reflect 1's attitude, 1's mindset , 1's way o thinking ,1's behavior n so on.A person can also get violent cuz o his beliefs .. that i guess, can cause damage. N dat wud ultimately change things.
My belief is dat "Its impossible to knw the "real or ultimate" truth , no matter wat you believe in.Its jus the choice...". So as long as ppl dunt kill or harm each other (either physically or mentally) n respect each others belief , i dunt think dat they shud stop believing. That obviously includes ur last statement. This comment aint biased in anyway , cuz m a atheist myself ;)
Keep jotting down ...
Nice 1 ...

what one believe's in may not change the world or universe like u have rightly said, but it may change the person him/herself...!

i believe i can do better than this - makes me perform better...

i believe i deserve a better boyfriend - makes me get out of a harmful relationship...

i believe i can make it - makes me actually go through something...

beliefs may not change the world. but they can change you!

and then beliefs are at different levels of life, and of different kinds...
maybe your beliefs about certain ideas/concepts of the society, people, world, universe God (if u must) aren't going to amount to much... or they don't make a difference...
but your personal beliefs - beliefs about YOU - can make or break you.

who would you be if you didn't believe you could be someone, or anyone at all?
